Oliver is 4!

Yesterday Oliver turned 4 years old. All day long I thought about where we were and what we were doing this time four year ago. I also contemplated how different our lives are now. So here's the latest update as it pertains to Oliver. I'll have stats after his check up on Monday.

He loves to eat! Anything that can go in his mouth sounds pleasing. He'll stop anything he's doing to eat, including playing. His favorite meal is chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, peas, and ketchup. Chick-fil-a is his favorite restaurant. He shares a love of ice cream just like me. At school they tell me all the time how well he eats and that he's always asking for seconds. There are times that he eats just as much as Brent at dinner.

Oliver loves to play! Just recently he's learned how to ride a bike with training wheels. Going to the pool also became a favorite at the end of the summer. His absolute favorite is swinging. For his birthday we got him a swing that hangs under the back porch. He loves going out there and prefers not to come back inside. Inside favorites include blocks, Legos, and cars. Oliver does not like to play alone. His favorite playmate is Graham, but he loves it when he has someone in the room creating things with him. One of the most upsetting things is when play time is over.

Oliver remains a good sleeper. He goes to bed around 8:00 each night and sleeps until around 7:00, but will be up and moving around 6:30 if he hears anyone else out of bed. Naps are sparse, especially at daycare. He's totally potty trained and even stops what he's doing to go potty when necessary.

Behaviorally, Oliver is stubborn yet compliant. He has trouble sitting still for a long amount of time and gets quite focused on things, even to the point of not listening to directions. Listening is still something we continue to work on. He's a sweet boy and when you listen to his intentions they are usually positive. There are many times Brent and I both wish we could just get inside his head to understand him better because we know his heart is in the right place.

Academically Oliver learns more and shares more with us every day. He conceptually understands numbers and their purposes and can recognize all of the capital letters of the alphabet. He continually shows signs of Kindergarten readiness for next year, which is shocking that it is only another year away.

To celebrate, the Honour family came over the celebrate with us. Oliver and Daniel loved eating outside by themselves, playing with Playdoh, blowing bubbles, bashing cars, and throwing balls. We had a great time honoring our big boy!
