Thanksgiving Week

I'm thankful that we've made it through this past week. It's been quite a doozy for sure! I don't usually write out the negative parts of life, but some of this is worth recording.

My extra long week started on Wednesday when I sent the kids to daycare. I accomplished a HUGE list of things between 8:30 and 4:30, including making a pumpkin pie from scratch. That night we met Brent for the Thanksgiving Eve service at church. It was a fantastic time of worship and remembering the importance of being thankful.

On Thanksgiving morning I went to Zumba for a little Wobble 'til you Gobble. It was a fantastic way to start the day and gave me a great amount of energy. As I was leaving, Brent called me in a panic that I needed to hurry home. Our washer erupted with water all over the place! It leaked from the washroom on the first floor down through the flooring and into the basement. A good portion of the day was spent cleaning up the mess, on the phone with insurance and cleaning people, and trying to entertain bored children. While Brent was doing the emergency laundry at the Laundromat Oliver and I put up the Christmas tree and decorated the inside of our house. The night ended with a full inspection and the beginning of the repairs. We are very thankful for Dave from ServPro for coming to the rescue.

Since Thursday the amount of sickies in our house has returned in the form of four times all the snot and congestion you could ever imagine. Plus all of the fans that are drying out the house with the dust from pulling up flooring and tearing out dry wall has not helped our case.

We spent Friday morning shopping for a new washer and dryer. Ours is 10 years old and had been acting old, so we knew the time was coming. We just didn't expect it this soon! Oliver's favorite part was watching TV in the big recliners at HH Gregg. Both boys enjoyed playing with trains and Legos at Barnes and Noble once Brent went back to make the purchase.

Then it was time to come home for lunch. Once the boys were down for a nap I went to my friend Charlene's to do laundry for the week. We spent close to 4 hours handing out and chatting it was a great reprieve from the situation. On Friday night we visited the Cincinnati Zoo for The Festival of Lights. We only stayed about an hour because of the cold, but the lights were beautiful and the fresh air was a nice break from being stuffy at home.

This morning started with the smoke alarms going off. Seriously? Oliver freaked out for a while. So I quickly got the boys out of he house and we did most of our Christmas shopping. Brent stayed at home to deal with the alarm issue, and eventually was the one to fix it. The night ended with church, which was just what I needed. The reminder that Jesus is the light in all darkness was quite fitting. Though our darkness is very silly to some, it's where we are at and what we are dealing with. God will meet us here! And he will continue to show himself as the light!
