Today Brent and I ventured to Ohio State University to The James. We found out more information about the milestones Brent needs to hit in order to know the medication is being successful. The first one is at the 3-month mark where they will be looking to see if the blood counts are back to normal. The second milestone will be at one year to ensure that all of the Philadelphia chromosomes have been eliminated from his body. The final milestone will be at 18 months to see that there are no leftover proteins left from the Philadelphia chromosomes. Once this is reached we will be able to move on to new options, which will most likely (at this point) mean staying on the medication. This doctor said that the bone marrow transplant is a desperate measure that would only be an option that would be considered after at least 3 medications were tried and failed. They also did some further blood tests which are already showing a decrease in white blood cell and blast counts. We will find out more results from those tests soon. We anticipate good news at this point.
To say the least we felt much better after today's visit. God is good! He will take care of this! There is hope!
