Today Graham is already 6 months old! I know I say it all the time, but time seems to pass faster each and every day! Our little guy is growing and changing so much every day!
This month Graham started eating baby food. He loves avocado, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, peas, applesauce, and bananas. We mix the fruits with his rice cereal for breakfast which helps him eat it because he's not a big fan of the blandness of it. He tries the veggies for dinner after his bottle each night. He still has four 8-ounce bottles each day: around 7:00, 11:00, 2:30, 5:30, and nurses for about 15 minutes before bed around 7:30. I think he's ready to go down to four feedings, but I don't want to reduce his milk intake that much yet. He has finally gotten where he finishes most of his bottles whereas he was leaving about an ounce every time for a while.
Graham has a stubborn bowel system, meaning he only poops every 5 days sometimes. The doctor said this is normal for a breastfed baby. It has gotten to be a little more regular, about every 1-2 days, since he started solids. I've also started giving him some probiotics that are mixed with prune juice every other day. This also helps him tremendously!
As for sleep our little fella naps much better at home than at daycare. Sometimes at daycare he only sleeps about an hour and a half all day long! At home he takes two good naps that are about an hour and a half to two hours long each. He also sleeps in his crib at home during the day where many of his naps are in a swing at daycare.
The little guy finally let go of the swaddle this month! At first we just had his arms free with his legs still swaddled because he was kicking so much. Now that he's completely free he will sleep for 10-12 hours each night. He's finally not active enough to wake himself up at night. Another funny sleep thing is that between 5:00 and 6:00 in the morning he loves to wake up and play in his crib for 5-10 minutes. After his play session is over he goes back to sleep until 7:00 or 7:30.
Speaking of playing, Graham loves to spend time playing with Oliver. The two of them laugh hysterically at one another. This includes everything from Oliver talking in his face to Graham kicking in the air or grabbing at his toys and feet. This month Graham started standing in the jumper and messing with the toys on it. He gets to do this at home and at school. Within a week of trying it out he had already figured out how to make himself go up and down. Oliver may have helped with this process just a tad by somewhat forcefully bouncing him up and down. We had a talk about the importance of being gentle. Another thing Graham loves to do is kick his legs. He kicks both of them up in the air at the same time then lets them hit the surface, mostly his crib mattress, as hard as he can. When he does this it sounds like someone is banging down the door. It is very loud!
Graham also has his first tooth! It is on the bottom right side in the middle. It first came up about a week ago and we see more white every day with it. The drooling has gotten out of control because of this, making his neck break out. He's constantly wearing a bib at this point so that his shirts are not drenched.
Finally, Graham is trying to sit up. His back is getting stronger every day and he can hold himself without help for about 2 seconds before falling over. He really wants to sit up rather than lay down though because he holds his head and neck up, trying to pull himself into sitting, a lot. When he can't get it you can tell that he gets a little irritated about it.
Graham is also a really happy fella. Though I have trouble getting pictures of it, he smiles constantly. The only time he really fusses is when he sees his bottle or he's incredibly sleepy. Otherwise he's very content!
Our little fella is getting so big, so fast! I can't believe it has already been half of a year since he was born!
